NICK HRUTKAY (Artistic Director) Nick Hrutkay is the Artistic Director of The Huron Playhouse. His association with the Playhouse began in 2015 when he directed FOOTLOOSE, recipient of seven 2015 BroadwayWorld Cleveland Awards including Best Production of a Musical and Best Director of a Musical. He has directed numerous work for Off-Off Broadway, regional, summer stock, and academic theatre. Selected directing credits include: SWEENEY TODD, HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, MACBETH, NEXT TO NORMAL, I AM MY OWN WIFE, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST, THE BIRDS, GOD OF CARNAGE, DEAD MAN’S CELL PHONE, THE SHAPE OF THINGS, THE SANTALAND DIARIES, EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL, THE TEMPEST, NEIGHBORHOOD 3: REQUISITION OF DOOM, BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL, PETER PAN, and HAIRSPRAY. His recent work includes award-winning productions of HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, an immersive imagining of the glam rock cult-hit, and A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, inspired by the designs of fashion icon Alexander McQueen. In the summer of 2014 he directed the Pennsylvania premiere of HANDS ON A HARDBODY, which also was the first staging to embrace it as a site-specific outdoor production. He has been heavily involved with The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) having three of his productions, DISCOVERING EDEN: THE MUSICAL (2012), BLACK FRIDAY: THE MUSICAL (2011), and THE EMBALMER (2010), invited to perform in the annual Region 2 Fringe Festival. Among his awards, he is the 2010 recipient of the Region 2 KCACTF/Stage Directors and Choreographers Society Directing Fellowship, and an ArtWorks Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. As a Teaching Artist, Nick has taught at Stagedoor Manor, Hippodrome Theatre, State University of New York at Fredonia, The Huron Playhouse, Footlight Players, among others. He has also been an instructor with the Hippodrome Improvisational Teen Theatre (HITT) project of the Hippodrome Theatre in Gainesville, Florida examining issues, such as bullying, homelessness, and substance abuse, through theatre with at-risk youth. Nick served as the Artistic Director of Keystone Repertory Theater and Producing Director of Footlight Players for three seasons from 2012 to 2014. JOHN P. JONES (Acting Managing Director) John, originally from Huron, returned to the Playhouse in 2012 and completed his fifth summer in 2016 as Director of Public Relations and Communications. He has relocated back to Huron and now assists with The Playhouse operation year-round. In April, 2016, John was named Acting Managing Director. He has extensive knowledge in management, marketing and non-profit operations. While growing up in Huron he appeared at The Huron Playhouse in All The Way Home, Our Town, Inherit the Wind, and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.
CHERYL RANDAL (Production Manager | Costume Designer) Cheryl Randal, a freelance costume designer and professional theater technician, is proud to be the Production Manager and Costume Designer at The Huron Playhouse. She has designed at many theaters across the country, and has toured both nationally and internationally as a wardrobe supervisor for numerous Broadway productions, including 42nd Street, Footloose, Movin’ Out, Blast, Annie Get Your Gun,Thoroughly Modern Millie, Little Shop of Horrors, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, among others. Her favorite costume designs include: 1776, La Cage Aux Folles, The Pirates of Penzance, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Her most notable memories include acting as the Wardrobe Supervisor for The Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring the World Famous Radio City Rockettes, as well as several Broadway tours throughout Europe and Asia. Cheryl sends love and gratitude to her boys who give her a reason to be, wherever their journeys have taken them.
JOE YORK (Education & Literary Director | Acting Company Member) Joe York is thrilled to be back at The Huron Playhouse! He recently graduated from New York University with an MFA in Musical Theatre Playwriting, as well as obtaining his BA from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Musical Theatre Acting. Some of his favorite roles include Thénardier (Les Miserables), Richard Henry Lee (1776), Doctor Parker (Bat Boy), Judas Iscariot (Jesus Christ Superstar) and Beadle Bamford (Sweeney Todd: Heavy Metal version). When not performing Joe is writing new theatrical pieces. Some of his original musicals include The Trees, Light UP!, and Popular Majority. Joe has also been the musical director at South Side High School in Hookstown, Pennsylvania for the past two years. Keep theatre alive and rock the arts! \../(-_-)\../
